Generally, guest passengers in an automobile accident in Louisiana are protected by the automobile owner’s uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. Therefore, if you are injured by an uninsured/underinsured driver while riding as a guest passenger in another person’s vehicle, you may be able to file an injury claim with the vehicle owner’s insurance carrier. Additionally, if you purchased uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage for your own vehicle, that insurance follows you, as the person, regardless of the vehicle in which you are riding. So, you may also assert a claim with your own uninsured/underinsured insurance carrier if you are injured by an uninsured/underinsured motorist while riding as a guest passenger in another person’s vehicle.
