Consider Your Rights Before Signing Them Away

|

Many times, people injured in auto accidents are confused. They’ve never had to deal with an insurance company before, other than paying their own premiums. They don’t know what to expect. Sometimes, the insurance company will send an employee to the scene of an accident, offering the injured person a check right on the spot. What people often don’t carefully think through, however, is that with that check the injured person must sign a release- releasing the insurance company and the negligent person from any further liability. After you take that money, you are barred from going back and seeking additional compensation, even if you later realize you were hurt a lot worse than you originally thought.

If you are injured in an accident, I suggest you very carefully consider your rights before signing them away. Many times, I hear from people who have signed away their rights before carefully considering the consequences. It is always a regrettable conversation.

My office is glad to talk to people considering their legal rights. If you have a question about what rights you might have, after you’ve been injured in an accident caused by someone else’s fault, please give me a call. I’d be happy to speak with you or meet with you at your convenience.
